7 days of 777

I loved this feature on Rihanna, which followed her remarkable wardrobe on the 777 tour.  If you adore her fierce style as much as I do, you will definitely enjoy this piece :)

Day 1: Mexico City

“Today was insane because we didn’t get our luggage until the last minute!” Ottenberg says. “The look is Hood Glamour: boys’ thug clothes mixed with diamonds and pulled-together hair and makeup. It’s an Alexander Wang men’s leather baseball shirt with a Adam Selman custom leather bra, Opening Ceremony x Komakino denim shorts, an 1870s estate diamond necklace from Kentshire, estate diamond studs and rings from Neil Lane, and a 1980s Versace bangle from Depuis 1924. The look was finished onstage with Kenzo menswear sunglasses and Balenciaga booties, but I love this backstage shot.”

 Day 2: Toronto

“Love the freshness of putting Rihanna in this Shaun Samson shirt and shorts look,” Ottenberg says. “Manolo Blahnik has done more custom shoes for us than you can imagine; this one is my new favorite. Adam Selman and I have been developing this bra shape for a while and it’s a hint of things to come in Rihanna’s upcoming clothing line for River Island. The sunglasses are Cast Eyewear; her bracelets are vintage Versace bracelets from Depuis 1924, and her necklace is from Kentshire—the same jewelry she wore in Mexico City.”

Day 3: Stockholm

“I styled Adam Kimmel for years and wear his Carhartt collection daily, so putting Rih in my new denim jacket felt perfect. Mixing it with a little Chanel—even better,” says Ottenberg. “Stockholm was an amazing show and the kids here look great!”

Wolford bodysuit, American Apparel shorts, Tom Ford shoes, vintage Chanel belt from Lynn Ban and vintage Chanel necklace and sunglasses from Depuis 1924.

  Day 4: Paris

“This is the sick Riccardo stage moment I’ve been waiting for!” Ottenberg says. “Loving the easiness of wearing menswear on this tour as a confident sexy look on a woman with major femininity. For the record, the Paris kids are super-cute and alive and know all the words to her songs.”

Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci satin top and suede thigh-high boots.

Day 5: Berlin

“We were in and out of Berlin in a mad heartbeat,” Ottenberg reports.” Loved this look in the industrial club she played: oversize shirt by KTZ, mesh top by Love Leather, shorts by Adam Selman, boots and sunglasses by Tom Ford.  After the show we hung out backstage for a while then on to London at 4:00 a.m. for TWO shows the following day.”

Day 6: London

Look 1 (left): “This is the first of two different performances on day six of the tour,” Ottenberg says. “It was taken outside in the freezing London afternoon, so we covered up with a mix of Raf Simons (coat and white shirt from the fall 2012 collection) and Acne (top and pants from spring). The jolt of color woke us up from our 777 jet lag! The vintage Cutler and Gross sunglasses are from Dover Street Market, and the shoes are custom Manolo Blahnik.”

Look 2 (right): “Of the singer’s second London look,” Ottenberg says, “This Happy Ashley look was amazing on Rihanna and a fun, ultrafemme departure from the week’s looks. Forget tomboy, we did Shangri-la, casino, bad-gal Riri, Versace girl. Mad props to Manolo Blahnik and Lynn Ban for being two integral parts of my Rihanna looks.”

   Day 7: New York

“New York was about doing a custom look with Adam Selman, my partner in crime and main Rihanna collaborator,” says Ottenberg. “We are into pink and wanted to give it another run before the other girls get into it. The look felt like Debbie Harry goes ‘hood’ via rave—appropriate, considering we just survived a weeklong rave in the skies. It’s so good to be home, and the New York crowd was the best! The 777 tour is over, it was epic, it was infamous, and I love Rihanna more than ever.”
